Innovative ideas and ideas about innovation

An excellent example of 'SCAMPER'ing a product
SCAMPER is a creative thinking technique which is designed to help people extend product and service offerings. You can read more about it here
Reading Springwise this morning, I came across a new motor insurance product aimed at the parents of teenage drivers in the US. The details are here. The essence of the product is that they have combined insurance with GPS tracking and alerts which allow parents to know when their children are exceeding their driving limits.
Now you may see this as a helpful way to keep your children safe, or another step on the road to Big Brother. However, it is clearly an example of the ways in which products and services can be divided and customised by carefully looking at the various niches which exist, but which may not be well served.
Just as a thought exercise, try taking one of your products/services - it can be internal or external - and play with SCAMPER to see what new ideas you may create.
